The famous regional Chinese dish of poached, skin-on chicken and seasoned rice has made its way to San Leandro.

Special Hainan Chicken, now open at 699 Lewelling Blvd., Suite 104, serves this southern specialty with chile sauce and cucumbers, alongside many dishes within Chiuchow cuisine, like braised beef, duck and pork and knife-cut noodles in 20-hour simmered clear broths. Currently in its soft opening, the restaurant’s hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Monday. You can spy the menu at www.specialhainanchicken.com.

This is the second location for Special Hainan Chicken, which has a sister restaurant in Cupertino called Special Noodle Soup with a similar menu. The classic noodle soups ($13.50-$15.50) are made with a chicken broth that features ginseng and abalone, but you can opt for laksa or mala spicy broth. There are five types of noodles to choose from, including knife-cut, udon or ramen.
